What is max port number

Hi friends,

I want to assign a specific port number to each user who are more then 9000 and till my know i can assign upto 9999 if there is more then don't have any idea about it. Can anyone tell me what is the maximum port number which i can assign to user or else i have to find some another alternative for assigning user and afterward it would be very complicated for me to assign them again.

If you are talking about TCP and UDP port then they go up to 30000 and at the same time i would suggest you not to use common ports like 80, 443, 25, 21, 1863, etc which are being normally assigned for other purpose but if you want to use it then you can assign it to users.

Francesca you have mention wrong number of ports actually it is 65535 including your TCP and UDP port and out of which some are useful and some are not but i would suggest you to have common port for all user instead of assigning individual port to each user and if further if you want to change a port then you need to only make changes at one place only and that changes will be done to everyone.
