    Windows vista firewall settings

    Hi,

I have setup a netowork and have applied a group policy setting on all computers firewall to allow some exceptions on all computers (e.g File and printer sharing is enabled and greyed out on the exceptions tab, so that the user cannoot alter the setting. All computers on the network are running windows vista.

However the problem is i need 2 of the computers on the network to be able to disable these settings on the exceptions tab.

Would ticking the "Don't allow exceptions" option temporarily disable all exceptions including those shaded out?

If not is there a solution to this problem?

Yes, If you select don't allow exceptions, it won't allow any services except the windows defaults... Not even the ones which are greyed out...

Also i have noticed that some users have installed 3rd party firewalls on their machines (such as zonealarm).

Will this allow those users machines to ignore the exceptions i have set by group policy on each machine? ie prevent me from accessing their machine remotely? (Please note:Remote administration has been enabled on the exceptions tab via group policy)

Yeah, if the clients have a third party firewall, that can interfere if not configured according to your needs...
