duplicate active network in Vista and Windows 7

    Hi,

I started experiencing this issue with windows vista, and it is also showing up in windows 7.

I am in a place where there is poor electricity, hence sometimes the power switches off and the network drops out, then the power comes on again and once all the devices have initialized the network starts working again.

After this event, all of the computers or laptops running windows visa or windows 7 see two networks, either in the network and sharing centre or when you hover the little icon in the bar. The networks are the same network, when you look in the network and sharing centre, if you choose each active network, sometimes up to 3 ... and you check the details on each one, they are the same network, same addressing scheme etc. The only thing is there is one network that is known, i,e it has the name you gave it and the location set, the other networks are simply called unknown network.

Sometimes the computer just refreshes constantly, enumerating the network constantly. the first known network is there, and then the 2nd unknown shows up, then a 3rd unknown shows up, then the 3rd disappears, then the 2nd refreshed, the the 3rd shows up. It does this constantly. The other behavior is that 2 or 3 network appear and stay there.

The only way to solve this problem, is to disable the interface and reenable again.

The network config is pretty simple, a bunch of xp, vista and windows 7 hosts connected to a cisco 2950, from that 2950 there is a linksys wrt54gv2 uplinked through the integrated switch, then the WAN port on the linksys connects to our ISP gear.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Try the steps below :

    a. Click properties of the vpn connection.
    b. click on networking tab
    c. Select internet protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4)
    d. Go to properties
    e. click on advance tab
    f. Uncheck "use default gateway no the remote network" in the ip settings tab

Try to run your router on UPS. The UPS will provide a temporary electrical supply to your device in case of low power. The flaw in electricity is causing a continuous disconnection of the network. It is very important a network should remain online so that the configuration setting works properly. A regular blockage effects the system settings. This can also damage your hardware.

Any one computer has some other network workgroup then other computers. Check all the computer and make changes accordingly...
