To repair Winsock if you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed, type netsh winsock reset at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

Note Restart the computer after you run this command. Additionally, for computers that are running Windows XP SP2, there is a new netsh command that can rebuild the Winsock key.

To access command prompt Try cmd and in rundialog box from the start menu

Try the following into a command Prompt: "netsh winsock reset catalog" if this worked then let it be or if not then try this :"netsh winsock reset"
test to see if this worked, if not then do this: "netsh int ip reset"

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. In Registry Editor, locate the following keys, right-click each key, and then click Delete:
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
    4. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
