Differences between static and dynamic routes

    Hello,
I have some computers connected through network. I will be adding more computers on he same network in future. I heard about the two types of routing i.e. static and dynamic. Can anyone tell me the difference between them?

    Thank you in advance.

Network device can be configured on two types of routing. Static routing is when you statically configure a router to send traffic for particular destinations in pre-configured directions. Dynamic routes use a routing protocol to determine the best path. If one route becomes less preferred, the route being used may change.

In static Routing administrator is responsible to configuring routing table and if any change occurred,Administrator have to update in routing table manually. In dynamic routing, there is a pool of IPs that your ISP can assign to users. When you connect to the Internet, your computer is leased one IP address from that pool for a number of hours.

Re: Differences between static and dynamic routes

Static IP addresses are reserved for you statically and don't change over time. Dynamic routing protocols are software applications that dynamically discover network destinations and how to get to them. A typical network will use a dynamic protocol such as OSPF to determine the best routes within an enterprise, BGP to determine the best exit points to the rest of the Internet, and static routing to glue it all together with reasonable default routes. Residential Internet connections, whether broadband or dialup usually use dynamic IP addresses.
