Sharing folder can ping ip but not name

HI,
I am using different computers on networks with windows XP. They have computer names and different network ID. Some of them can share files but cannot see computer name. I can ping IP of different computers. I cannot view workgroup computers in network places. Can anyone help me?

Try to stop windows firewall. Check that all other services like browser,Netlogon,Workstation are running in Automatic mode. Follow this steps to check the IP address and DNS network IDs:

Right-click My Network Places
Go to Properties
Right click on Network connection
Click on Properties
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Click on Properties
Then click Advance
Click Add to add correct IP and DNS

On every computer there are host files. These files are located in \windows\i386 directory. You can use these files for fixed IP address mapping. you can edit the hosts file on each computer to identify the network connections. And you can ping the machine by its name.

Try this:

Click on Start
Then click Run
Try regedit in the box
And Press Enter
The browse following key:

hkey_local_machine\system\current control set\control\lsa\restrictanonamous key
Then change its value from 1 to 0
