Which hardware works at the Application level of OSI model

I am new to networking and had started learning it since last month. I reached to OSI model phase and was just figuring out which type of hardware/software works under which layer. I forgot about the hardware/software running under Application Layer. So can you help to remember which hardware works at the Application level of OSI model?

Re: Which hardware works at the Application level of OSI model

The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model describes seven layers of interconnection: the Physical Layer (Layer 1), Data Link Layer (Layer 2), Network Layer (Layer 3), Transport Layer (Layer 4), Session Layer (Layer 5), Presentation Layer (Layer 6), and the Application Layer (Layer 7). The OSI protocol stack is split into layers starting with the physical hardware components at the Physical Layer (Layer 1) to the user interfaces at the Application Layer (Layer 7). So, in short, there are no hardware's running at the Application Layer. You will only find the applications running at this layer.

As the name specifies, the application layer does not involves any hardware but only the software applications. The Application Layer is the closest layer to the end user, which means that both the OSI application layer and the user interact directly with the software application. This layer supports application and end-user processes. This layer provides application services for file transfers, e-mail, and other network software services.

Re: Which hardware works at the Application level of OSI model

Both the OSI model and the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP), which you will learn in near future, contain an application layer. The common application layer services provide semantic conversion between associated application processes. Everything at this layer is application-specific. Application layer functions typically include identifying communication partners, determining resource availability, and synchronizing communication. Telnet and FTP are applications that exist entirely in the application level.
