No Ports is shown in Device Manager

hello,

The problem is, I cannot see any Ports when I view at Device Manager. Actually, there are no Ports listed and also no Warning Signs. The weird thing in Device manager is that, a yellow exclamation point shows up on serial when I execute Show Hidden Devices What's the problem ?
can anyone please suggest me ? Any ideas ??
..thnx

Re: No Ports is shown in Device Manager

If you are able to view any Ports in the Device Manager, you will need to ADD the Ports. For this,

- go to "Add/Remove Hardware"
- select the option that says something similar to "let me choose what hardware to install"
- Then, select "choose hardware from a list".
- Now, check the list and find the "com ports"
- select "add com port".

A yellow exclamation mark on the serial port (under device manager) indicates that your machine doesn't have a serial port. In my system, i can neither see serial nor parallel port. My device manager shows an exclamation mark on both parallel and serial.

If you have a modem connected, then check whether the phone line is connected to the modem properly and is there a dialtone in the line?

Re: No Ports is shown in Device Manager

First check - Are your ports enabled in the BIOS ? You may have disabled the ports in BIOS. Many users do this - to free up resources, and if they are sure that they won't be using them for a while. If they are disabled, then you need to enable them and the problem will be solved..
