Re: printer sharing for windows 7

I can say what I tried. I have a printer connected to Vista of 64bit and the system of wife having Vista of 32bit is on another connected printer. I have a dual boot of Windows 7 Beta in 64 and 32 bits versions. To share printers is qualified in both Vista systems. Here all the machines share the same local network. I did not have problems with the starting of Windows 7 and the use of Printing systems of Beginning/and devices and clicks in Adding a printer. Windows 7 finds so much printing and loaded without a problem or the necessity to find any conductors.

Have you kept sharing enabled on the system having printer?

    How to Share a Printer

    1. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.

    2. Right-click the printer that you just installed, and then click Sharing.

    3. Click Share this printer, and then type a share name for the printer.

    4. Optionally, click Additional Drivers, click the operating systems of the client computers that may attach to this printer, and then click OK. By adding drivers for these operating systems, users on client computers can connect to the print server and automatically download the appropriate drivers for this model of printer without having to configure anything.

    5. When you are prompted to do so, insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM.

    6. Click OK to close the printer properties.

    7. Close the Printers and Faxes folder.

Think the computers Name's are WindowsXP and Windows7

Make sure Printer on XP system is shared - which is called CannonPrinter

On the Network Browsing on your Windows7 system make sure you see the Printer on share.

Now on the Windows7 system do the following :

Go to Control Panel & add Local Printer. We are actually doing is "Poodle faking" the Windows7 system ensure running the printer.

    Now Make NEW Local port

    Enter Portname is \\WindowsXP\CannonPrinter

Now Windows7 system of load of a driver and you will be able to print in machine XP.
