Can you ping your gateway? Can you ping another computer by ip address?Do you have a link light on your NIC/hub/switch? Did you try using the MEPIS System Center to start eth0 after configuring it for DHCP? If no then open a terminal window and type sudo ifconfig eth0 up,sudo dhclient eth0 command.

If you have two interfaces (eth0 and eth1) for same ip address then run the following command, it will edit the interfaces file. After that change your eth0 to eth1.

    sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces

Run this command and check the connection :
    ifconfig
If there is no responce or no connectivity then open terminal and type system--config--network, it will ask for password. Enter valid root password, a new windows will open select eth0 from that window and click on auto obtain IP address setting and select dhcp, then click on ok.
