Re: Windows Live OneCare

Stop, and then restart the winss service
  • In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
  • In Windows Vista, click Start, click in the Start Search box, and then type command prompt. Under Programs, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  • Type the following commands, and then press ENTER after each command:
    • net stop winss
    • net start winss
    • exit

Visit the OneCare database update tool website.
    • Click Download.
    • To start the Windows Installer Package, click Run.
    • To start the database update tool, click Run.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Try to update Windows Live OneCare again.
  • Install MSXML 3 SP5
  • Disable other antispyware or antivirus programs on your computer.
  • If OneCare is still not working, uninstall, and then reinstall OneCare.
