Netgear card n't connect to Linksys router

    I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I just got a
newer laptop and purchased a Netgear 108 Mbps wireless card for it installed the software and card The Netgear card refuses to connect to the Linksys router. I have the router set up to use WEP with 128 bit encryption and a passphrase. it would find the router but won't connect.

Do I have a defected Netgear card? The only difference in the setup of the
two cards is the Linksys gives you an "open" or "shared" option, and
won't connect unless "shared" is chosen. There is no such choice in the
    Netgear setup.

    any thoughts?

    Reset the router following instructions.
Connect only the wired computer to the router first and follow the instructions in the manual
Set up the router to be able to connect to your ISP - normally DHCP enabled. Connect the Cable/DSL modem to the router WAN port and either cycle the power to the router (off/on) else use the RELEASE/RENEW selections to have the router request to have the router request an IP address from the ISP. Once you get an IP, you're connected to the internet.
using the router setup utility, make sure the wireless setup is done and then make the corresponding/matching setup on the laptop.just make the connection & then you can try other things such as encryption.

I had the same issue with my new notebook. I would see the router but it could not connect.
and what i did was initially connect it via a cable updated the inbuilt wireless adapter drivers and later tried to connect via wireless router and connected perfectly.
