Re: cannot start Remote System Explorer

The first thing you can try is to start the server manually:

    1. Open a 5250 emulator and log on to the iSeries server.
    2. Open a QShell prompt by entering the command qsh.
    3. Change to the directory where the server files reside by entering:
      cd /QIBM/ProdData/Devtools
    4. Enter server.iseries.
    5. The iSeries server will tell you which port it is using. Check to make sure that this port matches the port specified in the Remote System Explorer:
    6. To find the port number, right-click one of your subsystems in the Remote System Explorer and select Properties.
    7. From the pop-up window, click Info.
    8. If the port does not match the one specified by the iSeries server, edit this field to include the proper port number.

Re: cannot start Remote System Explorer

If your Remote System Explorer Communication connection still fails, the workbench will automatically determine what elements might be missing from your setup (for example, the required JDK level, correct server name) plus write information to a log file. The workbench log file is located in: \workspace\.metadata\.log the Remote System Explorer log file is located in: \workspace\.metadata\.plugins\com.ibm.etools.systems.core\.log, and the server log file is located in home_directory>\.eclipse\RSE\rsecomm.log. The home directory is set in the user profile, but typically this is /home/userid>.
Note: These log files are only intended for development and support personnel.
