Does Router speed depend on Broadband speed?

I have a Router of 802.11g

For this I have a broadband connection of SIFY of speed 128 kbps.

So, this means that I will only get speed of 128 kbps on my laptop. I am actually little confused because Router gives speed of 54mbps and 108 mbps. :? ?? ? ? ? ?

Please explain anybody. Thanks -

No i don't think so because if you are using multiple connection then at that time router comes into the picture.So don't worry you will get 128 kbps speed on your laptop.

Router speed and Broadband speed both are different aspect your Broadband speed is 128kbps so for download you will get 128/8=16 so maximum 16kbps speed Router speed is to much high as you said 54mbps and 108 mbps is supported by router but not possible for broadband provider.

Standard 802.11g is limited to a maximum of 54Mbps. To achieve anything faster, you need matching hardware on the router and on the computers. If you are only connecting to the internet with your computers, i.e., not moving files between two or more local computers, then it doesn't matter whether you've got 11Mbps (802.11b) or 54Mbps (802.11g)
