I have 2 PC , 1 desktop and 1 laptop . the desktop is with me and the laptop is with my sister . The problem is she like to print stuff and every time i have to turn on the desktop. can any one tell me a easy way to hook up my printer straight to the router so that she can use printer without the pc being on ! and dont forget that desktop still can able to use the printer .

In the end i want my 2 PC to connect to same printer through router .

Can you tell us what kind of router that you have . You can use direct connect ie, connect the printer via USB to the router OR you can try directly link an ethernet cable to router from the printer,, if your printer can hand it . There is one more consider to it faxing everything your printer, and then the printer will just print it out.

The internet connection doesn't not get affect,, it all about the printer

Re: Printer sharing through fios router

The printer is currently connected to your PC from your network you can shear the printer from the PC . The PC with the printer connected Needed to be on whenever you want to print from your laptop . For this you would not require any hardware and you would not need the printer connected to the router ,, if you wanna share the printer through an existing PC, the solutions would be As follows :

    Need a network capable printer.

Share the printer from an existing PC on your network.

Use a USB to ethernet adapter or print server.

If the printer is a network printer, then you can put the network address on a static address and that will not be your DHCP address distribution list in the router and now connect it with router through one of the lan ports. You gone need a laptop printer driver for a TCP/IP printer port that is equal to network address set in the printer .
