    Network file is copying slow

    hie everyone,

I am using Windows operating system. When I copy the files from other users over the network, the speed that I get is very slow. Can anyone help me providing the necessary information on how to increase or improve the speed for copying files over the network ?

Great !! Windows Vista has a feature called Remote Differential Compression that speeds up copying of files across networks and computer.

But this feature works only if both the computers over the network have Vista installed in it. However, if one of the computer has Vista and the other doesn't, then it results in slow transfer.

For better speed improvement, turnoff Remote Differential Compression feature. To do this -
Go to Control Panel -- click Programs and Features.
You will find a link on the left side of the page that reads "Turn Windows features on or off". Click on that link.
The next page lists all the various features in Vista. Find the Remote Differential Compression and uncheck the box next to it.
    Enter OK button.

I also had the same problem. I tried this steps and it worked for me -

    Follow the steps -

    1. Go to the Control Panel and Double Click on "Programs and Features".

    2. Click on "Turn Windows Features On and Off" in the left pane.

    3. Deselect "Remote Differential Compression".

That's it restart your computer and check copying files from the network again.....you will surely notice a major diference as I did.

If still the copying files is slow, then I think you need to update/reinstall network drivers....
