One of the most common and oldest way to transfer data on the net is FTP. It still a popular service to transfer file all over network. It comes will all OS and networking system.

You make it more secure by just following the below tips :
    a). Disable Anonymous Access.
You need to uncheck the box of Allow Anonymous Access in the security accounts tab of the ftp sites properties page.
By this you are limiting access to your FTP server. Only identified users are allowed whose accounts are being configured.
    b). Select Enable Logging.
By selecting this feature you can ensure that you will have an a record of which IP addresses and user visited your site. This will help to identify the threats.
You can select this option from the FTP tab of the ftp sites properties page.

To make your server more secure do this :
Configure settings so that the user can transfer files to your server. And the user will not be able to transfer or move file form your server.
Go to the FTP properties tab and select the Home Directory Tab
Select the appropriate settings. If you Diselect the write tab the user will not be able to make any changes on you FTP server.
Secondly you can enable Disk quotas.
You enable it from the FTP Properties Page > Quotas
By enabling you can reduce the size of user access on your server.

You can protect your FTP server by providing access to limited IP addresses only.
By giving access to limited IP address will reduce your exposure to unknown threats on the internet.
You need to go on the FTP properties and select Directory Security Tab
Select the option on Denied Access.
And add a list of IP address to which you want to give access.
Second thing you can do Enable Account Lockout and Account Lockout Threshold.
As FTP servers are a easy and known targets to the cracker. By activating this feature you can track the
number of failed logins. You can stop such failed logins by tracking them. They attempt to again access to
the administrator account and manipulate it.
So to avoid this Go to Start Menu > Run > Type gpedit.msc
Navigate to the local policies/Account Policies/Password Policy container and change the setting.
