My laptop cannot recognize modem

Hi there,
I have Dell laptop with broadband connection. I surf internet regularly. But when i restarted my laptop today, it is unable to recognize modem. I have no idea about this problem. Can anyone help?

Try following steps to resolve this problem, considering you are using windows XP:

• First put your XP cd in your drive
• Right click My Computer
• Click Properties
• Go to Hardware tab
• Click on Device Manager
• Click the Network adapters
• Select your option and choose uninstall
• Reinstall it again from your windows XP cd

Check the drivers are properly installed. You can download the drivers directly from Dell website. If your drivers shows yellow mark in front of them then update your drives from manufacturer's CD or from website.

If you are using windows vista home basic, it can be a bug in windows vista that is not allowing modem configuration. Try to reinstall. If you are using McAfee Internet security Suite, completely uninstall it and go for another antivirus like AVG free or Avast. You can use vista build in firewall also.
