    Remote desktop disables sound driver

    hi,
i recently installed Windows Server 2008 on my office computer but when i tried to access my system with intel 945 motherboard which has on board sound card (installed xp) at home it says "No Audio Output Device is installed". Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix it?Any help will be extremely appreciated.

In Device Manager, open the Properties of your sound device, and note what error messages are displayed. The Properties section typically provides some guidance as to what corrective action to take. Follow any advice provided.

In addition, if all else fails, you can remove the sound card in Device Manager, thus allowing Windows to reinstall it when you reboot.

    Try this:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4. Type DisableBeep, and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click DisableBeep, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

Note You can disable the MessageBeep function by changing the value to 1.
    7. Quit Registry Editor.

    • Install audio drivers on the server, of course
    • Enable the Windows Audio service on the server.
    • Open Administrative Tools => Services
    • Locate the service named Windows Audio
    • Set the start mode to "Automatic" and start the service
    • Enable RDP-Tcp Audio Mapping
    • Open Administrative Tools => Terminal Services Configuration
    • Select the "Connections" node on the left side
    • Right click on RDP-Tcp on the right side and select "Properties" (or double click RDP-Tcp)
    • On the "Client Settings" tab, uncheck "Audio mapping" (checked items are disabled)
    • In the Remote Desktop Connection window (client side), enable audio playback on client computer
    • Show options by clicking "Options >>"
    • On the "Local Resources" tab, select "Bring to this computer" in the combo box under "Remote computer sound"
    • Connect to the remote server and you should have sound.

Re: Remote desktop disables sound driver

You need to go to either your soundcard manufactuers website, or if you`re using onboard sound, your motherboard manufacturers website and see if they have any xp compatible drivers. If your system is an oem such as Dell/HP etc, then go to your computer manufacturers website and look for Vista compatible drivers.
