Is this a windows password or password that has been put in bios ?
I don't know. It came from an older laptop that was blown. I don't remember putting in any passwords. Some people tell me that acer,dell, hp
put security passwords into the products in case they are stolen.
What you mean you don't know????
When you switch machine on does it come up straight away asking for password or does it boot to windows screen and ask for logon password ?
It comes up directly asking password...........!
Then its a bios security password.......
As long as the stringent security option was not selected in the bios, the steps are as follows. If stringent security was enabled, only replacing the whole board would work according to the maintenance & service manual.
* remove power cord and battery
* remove the keyboard
* unplug the rtc battery for about five minutes
* plugin the rtc battery once again
* plugin the power cord, but leave the battery outside its bay.
* switch the notebook on
* now the bios was cleared
*enter bios and restore to factory defaults
Try this to slove the problem:
Power off the computer and make sure that it is unplugged.
Open up your computer case. You need physical access to the motherboard to complete this procedure.
Find a circular, (mostly) silver metallic object on the motherboard. This is the CMOS battery.
CAREFULLY remove the CMOS battery, avoid touching it with your fingers, and leave it out for about 120 seconds. This will flush the CMOS memory which stores the BIOS password and all other configuration. (See Warnings)
Set the battery back into place and power on the computer.
The computer should then warn you that the CMOS configuration could not be found. You can either reconfigure it yourself or restore defaults. Restoring the default configuration should be fine.
You will notice that the BIOS password has been cleared and you can boot without it. You may reset the BIOS password to something else by going into the BIOS configuration and setting a new User Password.
