    Linksys WRT54G Router Problem

I am very much confused regarding the problem of my router. For no reason the default username and password for the router turned to be not working. I have Linksys WRT54G router. I tried to reset router to ensure default settings for proper working of router.

But after resetting the router, the internet is not working at all.
I tried turning the modem off and on again and plugging the computer directly into the modem but still no results either.

Any help would be much appreciated as how to make the modem work again so that i can fix the router problem and can use the internet.

    1. Check all your physical connections and equipment (modem).
TURN OFF THE POWER to you computer, modem and anything else that is connected to your computer. Then Check all cables and connections are secure, in good condition and that they are plugged into the correct ports. Check that your modem is connected properly to the phone jack. Check that all equipment connected in the correct order.

    2. Turn the power on. Power the modem on.
Are the modems lights on - Power, Status, Link/Act and Ethernet? Is the Link/Act light on and constant?
Is the link light on you computer lit?

If this is all good then check IPCONFIG /ALL again. If there are still problems phone your ISP and ask them to help with your modem. Tell them about the 169.x.x.x address, subnet mask information and that you haven't got a Default Gateway they should be able to help you troubleshoot this.

Even you can use that way the wifi connection still not can't access the connection. so the best way we can do is the reformat the program then back up all important files then do it.... thats all. so your system now will refresh and it will back to normal. is it correct or not?

Of course it won't work unless you have properly configured it to work with your ISP modem & computer. Read the manual below. You should also call your ISP Tech Support for further guidance.

You need to adjust the Wireless Settings on your router...

Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network.

Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network.

    Re: Linksys WRT54G Router Problem

    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

If the above fails, check for any interference like Microwave Oven, Cordless Phone...try tweaking the Wireless Channel till the point you get stable connection...

    If the above fails :

You need to hard reset your router...Press and hold the reset button for 1 minute...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 1 minute and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...Make sure to change the Wireless Settings as mentioned above

Well try this. Go to start/run and type in command

at the command prompt type ipconfig

If you are getting a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx

Unplug the cable modem and router, leave the cable modem unplugged for 30 seconds and then plug it back in, once the cable modem has synced back up, plug in the router. Just some basic stuff to try.
