Hey Everyone,

I'm running Windows Vista as my operating system. I would like to know that how can i set Parental Controls for my system. I would like to have a restriction over my computer from different sites viewed by my son. Does any one have any idea that how can i do it? Any information on it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

To turn on Parental Controls for a standard user account

1. Open Parental Controls by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under User Accounts, clicking Set up Parental Controls.* * Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2. Click the standard user account for which you want to set Parental Controls.

3. Under Parental Controls, click On.

4. Once you've turned on Parental Controls for your child's standard user account, you can adjust the individual settings that you want to control. You can control the following areas:
  • Web restrictions:- You can restrict the websites that children can visit, make sure children only visit age-appropriate websites, indicate whether you want to allow file downloads, and set up which content you want the content filters to block and allow. You can also block or allow specific websites. For more information, see Limit the content that children can view on the web.
  • Time limits:- You can set time limits to control when children are allowed to log on to the computer. Time limits prevent children from logging on during the specified hours and, if they are already logged on, they will be automatically logged off. You can set different logon hours for every day of the week.
  • Games:- You can control access to games, choose an age rating level, choose the types of content you want to block, and decide whether you want to allow or block unrated or specific games.
  • Allow or block specific programs. You can prevent children from running programs that you don't want them to run.

Re: How do i set Parental controls in Vista

Below is the steps to set your parental control in Vista:

1. From the ‘Control Panel’ Window, Choose the ‘User Account’ and click the ‘Manage Another Account’
2. Choose and click on the desired account (example: ‘Romi’)
3. Click ‘Set up Parental Controls’
4. Choose one account that you want to control (example: ‘Romi’) and Vista will pop-up the Parental Controls setup window
5. Click ‘On’ in the Parental Controls. And all components will light up (including an option labeled ‘Up to ADULT ONLY’)
6. Choose ‘On’ in the ‘Activity Reporting’ option
7. Click other option, like ‘Web restrictions’. After the process, the next window will come up
8. Choose ‘On’ again at the option ‘Do you want to block some web content?’
9. Next, decide which content that you want to block in the ‘Web Contents’ list (You may choose: ‘Pornography’ and ‘Sex Education’)
10. Click OK to close the window and at the same time, ‘Romi’ has been protected.

Re: How do i set Parental controls in Vista

To set up a new standard user account and assign a password in Vista:

Start--> Control Panel--> User Accounts--> Manage another account (you may be prompted to allow access)--> Create a new account--> type a name for the new account--> Standard user--> Create Account.

This takes you back to the Manage Accounts window, where you can select the account you just created, then give it a password.

Create a password--> enter a new password (it’s case sensitive) > enter it again to confirm--> type a password hint--> Create password.

Next, turn on parental controls for the standard user account you created.

Start--> Control Panel--> User Accounts--> Set up Parental Controls (you may be prompted to allow access)--> click the standard user account for which you want to set parental controls--> under Parental Controls click On, enforce current settings--> OK.

Short cut way:-

A quicker way to create a new user account and help promote sibling privacy is to give your child the option to create his or her own password.

Start--> Control Panel--> Parental Controls--> Create a new user account--> type a name for the new user--> leave the tick in the box next to User must set password at next logon--> Create account.

Repeat this process for each person who will use the PC. An icon in the Windows system tray will remind users that parental controls are enabled.
