Unable to share network printer

I have a HP laptop and a desktop accessing the internet wirelessly using Linksys WRT54GS router. I would like to connect my Canon Printer so that both computers can print to it wireless. When I choose "Share this printer" I get the message "Printer settings could not be saved; operation can not be completed". I am seeing the printer on the network, so I guess that I am properly connected. Can some one help me with this setup?

Re: Unable to share network printer

Why don't you use a hub or a switch. I would prefer switch because it serves a best solutions many a time.

Re: Unable to share network printer

Have you tried the installation CD that came with the printer? If not then refer to it. It will help you through out the procedure.

Also are you logged in with the administrative account? You might need it to add the printer.

Re: Unable to share network printer

To share a printer across your network in Windows XP

1. Click Start - Settings - Control Panel.
2. Open the Printers and Faxes folder.
3. Select the printer you want to share.
4. Click Printer Tasks in the left window.
5. Choose Share this Printer.
6. Give your printer a unique name, preferably something easy to remember.
7. Click OK.

Now you need to add the printer to other machines that will use the printer.
1. Navigate to the Printer folder.
2. Click Add a New Printer.
3. Select Network Printer instead of Local Printer.
4. Locate the correct printer on the network.
5. Click OK.
6. Run a Windows printer test to make sure everything works.

Note: Remember, the first machine, on which printer is connected, must remain ON at all times in order to use the printer.
