How to Password Protect File Sharing in Windows Vista

Hello everyone!

I try desperately to set up a home network with two PCs running VISTA.

The sharing is done very well, I see each PC and each shared folder, but I would like for a username and password to access ...

I have:

- Configured each account with a password.
- Create a private network
- Shared public folders (password required)
- Sharing password protected

it asks for nothing

Re: How to Password Protect File Sharing in Windows Vista

To Password Protect File Sharing, follow the steps below:-

1. Open the Control Panel (Classic view).
A) Click on the Network and Sharing Center icon.
B) Go to step 2.
OR
1. Right click on the taskbar Network system tray icon.
A) Click on Network and Sharing Center.

2. Click on the down arrow to the right of Password protected sharing to expand it.

3. To Turn Off Password Protected Sharing -
WARNING: Only have this turned off if you are using a safe secured network. (EX: Private Home Network) I would not recommend turning it off for a wireless network.
A) Dot Turn off password protected sharing. (See screenshot below step 6)
B) Go to step 5.

4. To Turn On Password Protected Sharing -
NOTE: This is the safest option to use to help prevent unauthorized access.

A) Dot Turn on password protected sharing.
NOTE: Do not forget to create a user account with a password on your computer for the person on the network so they can have access to what you allow them to share on your computer. See the WARNING at the top of the tutorial.
5. Click on the Apply button.
6. Click Continue for the UAC prompt.
