    sad Router drops Internet connection

    Hey everyone,

I have two computers, one running Windows 2000 and another running Windows xp. I'm using Toshiba router to share our dsl for using internet connection. I couldn't reconnect through the router but get connected by using dsl modem directly to my computer. Whenever i try to connect through router it doesn't get connected to internet and my router keeps on dropping the internet connection. Can any one help me to resolve this issue?

    Thanks.

Many problems are solved by rebooting your system. Do it in this order:

    1. Power off your computer.

    2. Power off your router.

    3. Power off your modem.

    4. Power on your modem. Wait until modem is completely restarted before the next step. This may take upward of two minutes.

    5. Power on your router. Wait until router completely restarts. This also can take upward of two minutes.

    6. Power on your computer.

Some things you can try here.

    1. Try to change the channel on the router, like channels 1, 6, and 11.

    2. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.

    3. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues. In addition, try running with just a plain wired connection to the modem, see if the problem is gone without the router.

    Re: Router drops Internet connection

If you can connect to the router but not to the Internet, check the ISP parameters match in the router settings. The parameters depend on your broadband service. Typically for DSL, you enter the router the Account Name (alias Host Name) and a Password. Domain Name and DNS Server Address are other parameters that may be required.

If unsure which settings to use, or of their values, contact your ISP.

Cable broadband customers typically only need to configure the router from the same computer where the broadband service was established.
