your network is a workgroup? if yes you can go to sharing and security and add the computer name of the user that you want him to read or write to the shared folder .

Re: To password protect shared documents

If you don't have a share option for permissions, then you must be running the FAT file system. Convert it to NTFS and then you can set up permissions.

What you need to do is give everyone in your workgroup a user account on your computer, with a password. Then ,when they connect to your machine they have to authenticate to access shares. This also lets you control what shares they can access and what rights they have.

When you set up NTFS, please note that by default Windows permits the "Everyone" group to have access to every file and share. You first action should be to delete that group altogether.

You could always use the permissions and lock certain groups or users out. Just go into the security tab of what you're sharing and set the permissions there for certain groups or users. It's what I'm doing and it seems to work well so far.
