Re: How to configure IEEE 802.1x for user identification

IEEE 802.1x is to provide a extreme security authentication IEEE 802 for network technologies, including local area networks (LAN) and wireless LAN (WLAN). IEEE 802.1x specification provides another level of protection. It overall network is commonly used to access the wired network, vendors say, even if it can be. Some providers are confused as to why he is not and say they must inform users about the applicability when they wish to strengthen the authentication of the NAC for wired networks. The IEEE 802.1x is defined for the port based on monitoring of network access (NAC). It provides user and device authentication for LAN access, and is commonly used for 802.11 access points wirelessly.

Re: How to configure IEEE 802.1x for user identification

The 802.1X protocol is supported on both Layer 2 static-access ports and Layer 3 routed ports. To enable authentication 802.1X port-based, you must enable AAA and specify the list of authentication method. A method list describes the sequence and authentication methods to be queried to authenticate a user.Enter global configuration mode, then enable AAA.Create a list of 802.1X authentication method.
To create a default list that is used when a named list is not specified in the authentication command, use the default keyword followed by the methods to be used in situations of default. The default method list is automatically applied to all interfaces.
Enter at least one of these keywords:
    • group radius-Use the list of all RADIUS servers for authentication.
    • No-Do not use authentication. The client is automatically authenticated by the switch without using information supplied by the customer. Enable 802.1X authentication on the interface. Verify your entries.
Check the Status column in the 802.1X Port Summary section of the screen. An activation status means Port-control value is set either to auto or force, unauthorized.

    NetFlow developed

Cisco NetFlow is a method developed to collect IP traffic information. This information can then be used to visualize traffic flow and volume of traffic in a network to assist in capacity planning, identify normal or malicious behavior, billing and other tasks. "It shows you each user, by application, which consumes all your network resources," said Trent Waterhouse, vice president of marketing at Enterasys.Yet despite its promised benefits, NetFlow is the "most neglected capacity" on Enterasys switches , Waterhouse said. He added that 17 percent of call center company support are related to the features and functionality already built into the switches and Enterasys security policy management.
