IP conflict

Hello,

I have just got a new pc for my daughter. I get a temporary discontinuance message on my machine (the one hard wired to the router) saying "there is an ip conflict with another system on the network", ever since i had done the setup. This only happens, when she tries to boots her pc before mine. Even sometime i get an error while booting my pc.

I've installed Xp pro and it is connected through Network Magic 5.


Does anyone have any idea about this issue?

Try to set both your computers to static ip address. Any IP address remains constant each time, whenever any person tries to log in to the internet. Even myself have done the same and can easily log in by using remote desktop. It's quite easy to set static an ip address.

Follow these steps to set a static ip address.

Open the Control panel-->In that open Network Connections, then right-click on the "Local Area Connection" (unless you've renamed it to something else) and in that Choose "Properties", Then (in the "General" tab) select "Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)" and click on the "Properties" button. Check the "Use the Following IP address" checkbox and enter your desired IP address.
