    Wireless router problems

My wireless network has worked fine for the last year and a half.

I went home to my parents' and got on their (notoriously problematic) wireless network. While there, the network stopped working. First I got a notice of limited or no connectivity, then about five minutes later, I "couldn't connect to my preferred wireless network" and when I attempted to connect manually, it was stuck in "waiting for the network...". My brother changed something on my computer so it accessed the internet--mostly. I still couldn't connect to some sites. This problem affected all of the computers on the network.

Back at my apartment, my network worked fine, for about 36 hours. Then it went through the same progression of problems as on my parents' network.

I can still connect when plugged in, and the other two computers on the network are fine. I'm running Windows XP, cable internet, and a Linksys Wireless G Broadband router. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

why dont you try repairing the network connection and properly enter the ip address and other network connection details and for 36 hours you said your network was fine. does this mean you were able to connect to network properly for 36 hour then this problem occur? i

Drop the XP CD in the drive and go to Start, Run, cmd and type sfc /scannow this will check your system files to see if any spyware or viruses have changed or damaged them. Let it replace any that aren't ok.

Next try seeing if Netbios is working and ping the computer by it's name and NOT the ip address.

You may want to run WinSock fix and see if this fixes it.

If you have SP2, try this:

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2
    • For these commands, Start -> Run -> CMD to open a command prompt.

    • Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

    • Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ip reset reset.log
