    Identifying and Disabling Firewall

    Hi Friends,
Recently our classes professor has got this new Firewall installed into our PC's (Christmas Surprise)**, it's very powerful and the surprise thing is that instead of blocking individual sites it blocks sites using keywords.

If you visit one of the blocked sites the browser will close including any other tabs you have. and it also doesn't just blocks sites like espn.com and yahoo.com it also doesn't allow programs like limewire or navnet image finder to operate.

Can anyone please tell me how to find this Firewall and disable it...

Thanks for your reply in advance.

    Hi Antiqity,

Check under Programs first. View all of the applications listed and check them properly to see if one is a firewall. else you can also navigate into the C:\program Files folder, just in case the application does not show up in Programs menu. In here you can look at folder names, and maybe find an firewall application. You can also check the services application

    Start >> Run >> services.msc

there would be a service listed in there relating to a firewall application

All this can be done only if you have a Administrator account on the Computer or else you won't be able to access it neither disable it.

    Re: Identifying and Disabling Firewall

I think you should probably check your professors router. I have a linksys WRT54G and I can limit access to specific PC's by IP or MAC Address or however I want.
You can limit what they do or can do with specific websites and keywords. So there are chances that it's probably not a software firewall but through the router.
