get a CMD prompt window and
ping -t $your-isp-name (eg earthlink.com )
there should be a continuous list like
Pinging earthlink.com [209.86.93.211] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 209.86.93.211: bytes=32 time=77ms TTL=241
Reply from 209.86.93.211: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=241
Reply from 209.86.93.211: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=241
if you see something like

the connection was lost
It's a known issue. Disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service, and use your wireless card's built-in software. (should be a program you can use after installing the drivers).
i would disable any third party wireless configuration utility and use window's configuration untility
then go into the hardware properties of the card and tell it what ssid to use
also do you have wep on this network?
if not you might want to consider turning it on
windows doesn't like connecting to networks with out wep enabled sometimes
