| Re: Cannot update McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i
If you are running into an error while updating McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i that is similar to the report belo, you will have to remove a registry entry leftover from previous versions of McAfee. This entry is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\VIRUSCAN8000. Please be warned that registry Microsoft has issued the following warning with respect to the Registry Editor: "Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to re-install Windows to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk." If you are not confident with editing your registry to fix this problem, please contact the CIS HelpDesk. |

I too have this issue in some of the systems of my office. I tried to manually remove VSE 8.5 and AS module and then reinstalled it. The 3.6 agent is installed on all the machines. Protection Pilot just shows the DAT is not up to date, and running SDAT49xx /F doesn't fix it either it just forces the DAT update for that day, and then we're back to square one tomorrow. Can it be DLL registration issue? |

| Re: Cannot update McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i
There is a "callback component interface" issue problem with 8.0i for a vsupdate.dll problem (not registered correctly, reregister to repopulate missing registry key) http://knowledge.mcafee.com/SupportS...6850&stateId=0 This is probably the related link. |

| Re: Cannot update McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i
I think I had this problem on one (out of about 35) of our PCs after I updated it from 8.0 to 8.5. I tried uninstalling VSE 8.5 and CMA 3.6 and reinstalling both, but that didn't help. Then I looked in the registry and found there were still some entries for 8.0, so I removed them. Then everything worked. Unfortunately, I don't remember (and I didn't write down) what entries they were or where in the tree they were located. I may have just searched the registry for the first part of the COM id (9BE8D8A1 in your case), but again, I can't say for sure. Sorry if I haven't provided enough info to help. UPDATE: It may have been HKLM\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\VIRUSCAN8000. Remember, the standard cautions about changing your registry apply. |

| Re: Cannot update McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i
The moral being if you are going to remove the cma and VSE install clear the registry down too. Actual full manual removal would have involved clearing the macfee and network associates software keys from the registry including the additional virusscan8000 key that sometimes exists in addition to the later virusscan8600 key. |
