Can not see Vista and XP computers on the network

After many attempts and many topics in the discussions dedicated to Vista, I will create my own, in the hope of solving my problem.

I have two PCs, networked via modem, one in XP SP3 and the other with Vista Basic and both use the Windows firewall. Both PCs access to the Internet are well under the same working group, each ping is no problem, but is impossible that one of the two PC sees another, and it is very annoying for file sharing.

When I try to access it manually by "\\ 192.168.30.10", I get a message saying I can't do that.

I am of course the administrator of the computer. A little help would not be denied, thank you.

First share any folder on each machine. Then try deactivating the firewall (Windows and other, if any). Even disable the firewall of your modem (if any).

Under Vista, it is easy to share files in "public". In the configuration wizard, network and sharing center, you must check the first three options after this XP will have access to these records without authorization or password, apart from sharing in the properties files.

To access those of XP from Vista, nothing special is valid if simple file sharing in XP.

And your network has the same name on both Vista and XP? (for example, workgroup)

On XP have you installed the LLTD Responder?

I tried disabling the firewall on both the computer.

Also records are shared, but still I should be able to access the PC.

Yes, as stated in the first position, both computers are in the same workgroup.

Today I will format my Vista computer and see what happens.
