Yahoo Ip's Tracing

Is there a way to trace an IP from a email that came from yahoo? One of my friend is getting very wierd emails from a yahoo email address. If you search for that email it tells that it is private, which I have never come accross? Please help me. Thanks alot

Unless the ISP keeps track of IP address to mac address to client's registered location, you cannot.

If you get to the whois lookup then you can trace it pretty easily

If you are able to establish some other type of connection (webcam, voice, or some other type of direct connection) then you will be able to obtain their IP address from your logs or netstat or what have you. Another possibility would be having them visit a webpage on a web server that you control, then their IP would show up in those logs. However, through normal chat, I dont believe that there is a method of obtained their IP.
