Can nslookup dns but cannot ping name

Hi.
I can nslookup dns like www.google.com, but if I try to ping www.google.com the ping cannot even resolv the name.
However, I can ping the ip address.

The same situation is in address bar of explorer where I try to connect to server \\testserver - it does not work. By IP it works fine.

Any thoughts?

Hey Guys, I've had this on a friends computer yesterday and solved it with "System Restore", I'm pretty sure it has to do with the "microsoft distribution service" installing, might even be SP3...which was distributed via "windows update" at about the time you guys wrote your comments.

Same happen with me and i resolve this issue by simply uninstalling some security updates. i.e Security Updates KB950749,KB950974,KB938464,KB946648. Uninstall these Updates. or any of it
