While the future 802.11n standard is moving towards a final ratification, the U.S. manufacturer Netgear announced today the addition of two new products, a wireless router and a modem router, both of which benefit from recent advances in WiFi, to ensure a theoretical speed of about 300 Mb / s. Both devices adopt certification WPS (WiFi Protected Setup), implemented here as the "Push 'N' Connect", which enables 'pair quickly a computer and the router, without needing to go through phases of the network detection and seizure of the protection key.
The WNR2000 presents itself as a traditional router, equipped with four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports and one RJ45 port dedicated to connecting a box operator or a modem. Equipped with a double firewall (NAT and SPI), it has the usual array of refinements related to security, including authentication by MAC address cards allowed the connection, support for WEP, WPA and WPA2, and control features Internet access. The WNR2000 is already offered for sale from € 59.90.
The DGN2000 offers similar features, except that it also has a modem, and displays an RJ11 plug allowing direct connection to a telephone line. Fitted with two external antennas, it also meets the requirements of 802.11n Draft 2.0 of the WiFi Alliance, and should therefore be updated for compatibility with the final version of the standard once it has been published . The DGN2000 is also immediately available, from 72.01 €. Both devices can also be marketed pack, with an 802.11n WiFi USB key.
