I am getting an error message that states "Microsoft Document Scanning has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.".

Error Details - Scansrv failure

Is there anyone who can help.

Did you try to install the Office Service Pack? Download it from this link - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923618/en-us

Also, have you checked if your scanner driver is upto date?

Thanks for the reply, I have installed SP3 and also the scanner drivers are the latest. The tech guy at my place has checked everything about it and made sure the software is also fine. I even tried to use the "detect and repair office" in Add and Remove Programs but that didnt help me either. Any other ideas?

I dont know how come you are getting that error but I found a fix for it that you can follow. Just try to shorten the name of your scanner in the control panel to under 26 characters, for example, if it says Hewlett-Packard Office Jet K80 Scanner, then change it to HP OfficeJet K80 Scanner. Report back what happens.
