Office 2003 won't update gives error code 80070643.

Hello. I’m using HP dv9000 laptop with Windows Vista. Couple of months ago I installed Office 2003 and it was working fine so far. Since last three days I started receiving some problems. When I searched web regarding the solution they said to update windows. This will install few recently launched patches for office and problem will be fixed.

Now the second problem is whenever I try to update, office 2003 wont update and gives me error code 80070643. Now this is the primary problem, forget the first problem. Can anyone please tell me how can I fix it?

As far as I know when we run Windows Update it tries to install updates related to OS as well as Office and many other stuffs on our PCs. So can you be more specific and tell me exactly which Office 2003 updates are not getting installed?

Thanks for your reply Sulolab. I’m trying to install the following latest security updates:

    KB914455, 920813, 924424, 929064, 919029, 923097, 925251. Outlook 2003 KB924085. Word KB929057. Excel KB929058 and Power Point 929060.

But none of them are getting installed or updated? Please help.

OK, let’s try to manual method of installing updates successfully. In order to do the same, first of all you will need to Rename Office subkeys. Once done, click start > RUN > type ‘REGEDIT’ > Enter. Now go to the following locations and rename below mentioned registry keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

Here rename 11.0 Old11 by right clicking. Close the registry editor. This will reset customized user settings for your Microsoft Office programs. Once done, follow the below steps:

    • On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
    • Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    • Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
    • Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane and click Change.
    • Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
    • Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next.
    • Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation".
    • Click Install and wait the process to end.

    That’s it.
