Word 2003 crashes - novice question

Then I am going to arrange it so that my news reader DELETES all your
arrogant posts and I will never see them. Good Riddance to bad rubbish.

My boss is in the habit of leaving her thumb drive inserted with her work
open on it. Someone shut the PC down with the drive in and turned it on
again the next day with the drive still in. Don't know what, if anything,
was open on it at the the time of shut down. (See original post in this
thread on the 22nd.) If anything was open, it was almost certainly an MS
Office app.

Sorry to sound dense or naive - uninstall and reinstall the drivers?

Sorry I read it as you could only start Word in "Word" safe mode. I see
that it is Windows in safe mode. The problem would likely be related to
some drivers in Windows that are the issue. I would suspect the video
driver as a guess, or the USB thumb drive and USB drivers. Uninstall and
reinstall should reset the drivers.

IE crashed when I tried to print a map. Hmmm. . . Deleted all the printers
and Office is stable so far! Woo hoo!

Not sure if it was MS Office Document Image Writer or one or all of the
Okidata printers because I deleted them all at once because it's late.
Tomorrow I'll reinstall some and keep my fingers crossed.

I had the identical problem and did everything posted in MS tech forums to no avail. I spent 1/2 hr with MS Engineer and we discovered the problem was caused by one of my printers. By setting the default printer to another printer I had on the network, the problem vanished. I haven't sorted the problem out with my HP printer yet, but now I have a direction to follow and Word is working.
