Outlook 2003 process does not close

I am facing problem with Microsoft Outlook 2003 SP3. It freezes a lot whenever I download some attachment. The problem started when I got some large attachments. It freezes and does not allow me to do anything. When I try to end the process through task manager nothing happens. Only after a proper log off it works fine. If the same thing happens to any other application I am able to close it through task manager.

Can be issue with some other addon in Outlook. I got the error when I sync it with my pda. It freezes and does not move ahead in pda only. While the sync simply takes a very long time to complete. I checked out a number of add-ins and removed them all. But still nothing worked. The last thing I did is clicked on Diagnostic. It scanned and fixed it.

Is there a antivirus in your system like Norton. Because I had gone through a similar issue on Norton. When I click on any attachment the email client freeze for some while. And it goes back to normal once the attachment were scanned. It looks the problem is due to the antivirus. Disable the scan and then check again. I am sure it will be working fine.

Antivirus can be responsible for the same. You have to use some other. I am using AVG which is quiet easy to use. It a light antivirus that allow real time scanning and virus protection. I was using Norton before and due to which I was getting the same issue while opening attachment.

I have installed a fresh copy of XP Pro SP3 plus all MS updates.

I then installed Office 2003 Pro and applied Office SP2. Outlook worked fine even with McAfee SPAM enabled etc.

At this point I created an image of the system.

I then applied all the remaining MS updates and thats when outlook stopped closing down correctly.

I have since reverted back to the image I created!

For us XP Pro with SP3 and Windows 7 Pro 64, we have this problem everytime, no exceptions with AVG 8.5 and 9's plugin.

You should know that Outlook 2003 as well as Outlook 2007, both are compatible with windows 7, but it's recommended to use Outlook 2007 for better performance. For compatibility, check http://www.microsoft.com/windows/com...Outlook%202003. If you want to continue with Outlook 2003 then update it with service pack 3. Find service pack 3 for Outlook 2003 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en.
