the converter failed to open file

We have about 10 PCs at office, all having MS Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. On all PCs, we are facing problems. Sometime while opening few Office files, it fails saying "the converter failed to open file". Note, the problem is with only few files, there are many office 2007 files which still opens file.

Any idea why is it happening? Please provide some solution.

Can you tell us whether you are using the spreadsheet saved it in a different format, e.g. Excel 2007 format? Typically that would trigger the file conversion process. Are you sure it's in Excel 97-2003 format, or could it be in Excel 5.0 format (for example), which would still have an .XLS extension? Try to get the compatibility pack from here
