how do i convert .mdi

I want to scan a bunch of documents together but for some of the people the scan is going to be sent to by email and it is unable to open because its a .mdi document, how can I convert it so that these people with old computers can open it and read it? Could it be possible to open it in MS Word? Thanks.

I think that a high resolution, tag based graphics format like .mdi files are only supported by the Microsoft Office 2003 version or so of Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Incase you are going to share files with people who are using Office Document Imaging 2002 or any other document imaging program, then you have to save files in TIFF format for compatibility.

Microsoft MDI files are a real pain and waste of time. Many people you may send them to just cannot open them.
However there are free viewers. Then print them with a free pdf printer like cutepdf and you then have a usable document.
Microsoft really ought to get their act together or pay us for using their software rather than ripping us off.
Installing ms imaging to office 2003 no longer works - don't waste your time with it- SP3 killed it dead
