| Turn off reading pane permanently
How do I turn off the reading pane permanently? I know how to do it for each session, but every time I close office and reopen it comes back. I find that It takes up too much space on the screen. |

Due to the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without reading. In Word, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the "Allow starting in Reading Layout" box | OK. "Eric" wrote: > How do I turn off the reading pane permanently? Done that. It resets every time I open a word document attached to an e-mail, plus it resets other options at the same time, including automatically create a drawing canvas (I hate that WORSE than the reading layout!) Any suggestions for making it PERMANENT? garfield-n-odie wrote: > In Word, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the "Allow starting in > Reading Layout" box | OK. > > "Eric" wrote: > > > How do I turn off the reading pane permanently? Hi Mark, Changing the Word setting in Tools=>Options for turning off the Reading Layout view should work for email and making that change should not change other settings, such as the drawing canvas setting. It's possible that you may have a corrupted data key in Word, assuming you have admin rights to the registry. http://support.microsoft.com/default...us;821713&FR=1 ======= <<<mark.seymour@acstechnologies.com> wrote in message news:1105643936.527566.30960@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com... No, it didn't help. I deleted the registry key, went into Word and set the options the way I want them (I checked the box to display drawing anchors on the View tab, I unchecked the boxes to allow starting in Reading Layout and automatically create drawing canvas on the General tab) and it seemed to work great. However, after I reboot, if I open an Word e-mail attachment, it opens it in Reading Layout. When I close Reading Layout and go into Tools, Options, all three of the options I had set are reset to the original defaults. Any other suggestions? |

For anyone else out there who has run into this, I have found a workaround. As long as Word is already open, then the e-mail attachment opens correctly. The only time it resets my settings is when Outlook starts up Word. |
