| PROPLUS.MIS
I installed Office XP Pro and have used it for a couple of months with no problem. Now, when I try to open any application in Office, I get a Windows Installer box installing Front Page. Then the installer asks me for the installation disk for an installation disk for Office XP Professional with Front Page. For whatever reason, I cannot open Office apps. I don't keep the installation disks with me (I keep forgetting them). What's going on? How can I fix it? How do I keep this from happening again? |

Did you install any new software or any patches that might have changed your system state? Does your disk say "Office XP Professional with FrontPage"? You'll want to try re-installing it. You may also want to copy the CD to your hard drive and run the installation from there, so you don't need to have the CDs handy in case they need to grab something from teh installer. Visit kellys-korner and scroll down to Item No. 171 (right column) and click on "Office XP 1706 - ProPlus.MSI Fix. |

So, I presume you know that Office XP Professional with Front Page is an Enterprise only edition that your employer would had to have supplied to you, right? And that you could easily have gone to your system admin at work for assistance with an employer supplied piece of software, right? No?? Then, I guess you could be one of the thousands who got this software off the internet through a warez site since this is one of the most pirated Microsoft titles out there, probably second only to Windows XP corp.zip (which has been disabled from *ANY* updates). Congratulations on your hubris to post to a microsoft.public news group. |

Ms. Staples I commend you for speaking before you know all the facts. I am in the same boat as BKDencer appears to be in. However, I am not running pirated software, Warez hacked software or anything else. I am supporting a charitable organization that was GIVEN a Dell computer with Windows XP home pre-installed and Office XP with Frontpage when the machine was donated. The organization uses Excel and Word on a daily basis and could not afford to buy everything it needs, so donations are a fact of life. Microsoft has released a SP-3 for Office and broke the applications. So now, "How do we fix one more of Microsoft's unending gotcha's?" Thank Heaven Carey Frisch was more interested in helping the MS community than chastising us for being stupid enough to tolerate the shoddy patch delivery system from Microsoft. I've used MS products since 1978. The quality today does not put a patch on what was the norm in the early days. Maybe the wonderkinde at Microsoft are more interested in chastising than in writing good code too. |
