| Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium -- Error 1706
I have a few users who are receiving the following errors. Have been hunting high and low, cant find a solution that seems to work. Looked at KB 258847 and also looked at KB 298385 which seems to fit exactly for the product number. I am getting this on an XP Machine and a 2000 machine. I have noticed tons of posts with this related error, however no solution. Would appreciate the assistance. | Re: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium -- Error 1706
Hi J., Error 1706 is the installer not being able to access the original installation source, either CD or network point. It can be a permissions issue, path/drivemapping issue, incorrect (non matching) CD or that the source is not available. ======== <<"Smurfman" <smurfman@news.postalias> wrote in message news:D87D66B6-9A8C-4298-96E8-D825455F9F7B@microsoft.com... Good Afternoon, just returned from Vacation, and to quickly answer your quesiton, this is not from Terminal Services. But I seem to recall making this kind of change before...and will look into it a little further. If you have more suggestions given this is not terminal services, let me know, I would appreciate it. | RE: Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium -- Error 1706
Hello, Based on my research, Office 2000 SR-1 is installed from a CD or a copy of the CD on the network. If a non-admin user launches any of the office products, i.e. Word, the installer will run every time the applications are launched. The user will receive an error 1706 which is that Office needs the source available. The non-admin user does not have the correct permissions to utilize the CD or the source is not available for them. To resolve it, please perform the following steps: 01. Log on as the local administrator or domain administrator to the machine. Implement the registry key policy: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer] "AllowLockdownMedia"=dword:00000001 "AllowLockdownBrowse"=dword:00000001 02. The feature, NotInstalled, is requesting the source - this feature is linked to a file named Extract.exe. This file resides on the source which is a CD-Rom. The file is not crucial to the functioning of the Office products. We remove the feature and resynchronize to the source location, i.e. CD Rom or admin install point of the same Office SKU (Professional to Professional, etc.): msiexec /i CD-rom drive letter:\data1.msi REINSTALLMODE=vm REMOVE=NotInstalled /L*V C:\resync.txt NOTE: If you want to resynchronize for the admin install point of Office, then you can run on the client machine (as the local admin) the following command line: msiexec /fvm <admin install point location>\data1.msi /L*V C:\resync.txt Related Knowledge Base Articles: =============================== 258847OFF2000: Error Message: "The Feature You Are Trying to Use Is on a Network Resource That Is Unavailable" or "Error 1706" http://support.microsoft.com/?id=258847 227091 Command-Line Switches for the Microsoft Windows Installer Tool http://support.microsoft.com/?id=227091 223300 How to Enable Windows Installer Logging http://support.microsoft.com/?id=223300 Regards, Ada Pan Microsoft Online Partner Support Get Secure! - www.microsoft.com/security ===================================================== When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so that others may learn and benefit from your issue. ===================================================== This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. |
