    Excel vlookup word strings

I have a problem and I believe that vlookup is the solution although I cannot currently get it to work. I have 3 columns of words. Column A is a string of words. Columns B and D are a single word or phrase. I need to look up the single word or phrase from column D and find a match in Column A. Once a match is found I need it to put the value from column B of the same row into column D of the same row. If anyone could help me in any way that would be amazing. Even if it is pointing me in the correct direction. I can supply a small sample of my data set if my explanation is unclear.

I guess that you can easily create a table which lists all your businesses and assign them all with a unique number. So you can use the vlookup to look for the unique numbers.
