You cannot do that without a add-in. You have to download and install a CalDate.xla called addin for the same. Once installed, a host of new features available to the user to calculate with dates, by overcoming the limitations of Excel for dates prior to 1900. These commands allow to convert a Julian date number written in text format. There are many more other things that you can try out. And remember there is no issue with the addin compatibility.
I have a sample formula for the same. First is =DATE(Y,M,D)+2415018.5. Here Y is year, M is month and D is date. You can try downloading Julian Date Calculator spreadhseet which can be found on web. This sheet will help you to convert the date values. You can then use them in your current database.
