Cannot start the source application for this object Error in Excel

I added a .pdf file into an excel spreadsheet workbook. Whenever I try to open the file, I get an error message says that "Cannot start the source application for this object". It will not let me open the Adobe Acrobat document. I do not have a problem opening the .pdf document by itself outside the excel spreadsheet.

We have the same problem with TIF files. On a XP computer it doesn't work. If we do this on a Office 2000 running on Terminal Server it works fine. It has to do with the Imaging application. Wangimg.exe is not running on XP. But how do I solve it. Please help.
