Can I install Office 97 on laptop running Windows 7?

Hi,

I recently installed a fresh Windows 7 system on one of my desktop. I own a genuine Copy of Office 97 which I’m using since long time. I wanted to know can I use Office 97 on Windows 7. I mean is it compatible? If yes, whether I will be able to upgrade this later to Office 2007?

Yes you can use Office 97 on Windows 7 but I doubt if it can upgraded to Office 2007. Also if we suppose it can be upgraded, your 97 CD might be very old and later when you buy the upgrade and your CD gets damaged or faulty, then you will be stuck again and you will need to buy the complete Office 2007. SO its better to buy it now itself instead of installing 97.

Yeah, that true. In case your CD gets faulty you may be in problem. You dont need to install the earlier version in order to install the upgrade version, you simply need the earlier version cd available to insert when your 2007 installation complains that it cannot find a qualifying product

I will never recommend you to install Office 97 on Windows 7 because though it will work fine, but your Windows 7 UAC will stop working. And if you will remove Office still the UAC slider will be turned off and there will be now way to fix it except doing system restore. So, better go for Office 2007.
