Publisher 2007 cannot open .pub file but Publisher 2003 can!

I was using Windows Vista Laptop Business laptop with Office 2003. I use to work with MS Publisher and have about 50 .pub files saved on my hard drive. Couple of days ago I removed Office 2003 and installed Office 2007 Professional edition and started getting few problems. Note, there are about 7 .pub files I created after 01/01/09 and rest created before this date. Now I’m not able to open any of those 7 files in Publisher 2007. Every time I try to open it says: "Publisher cannot open the file."

Surprisingly, rest all files created before that date are opening fine. Later I removed office 2007 and installed back office 2003. Now I’m able to open all pub files created before or after 01/01/09 in publisher 2003.

Any idea what is wrong with Office 2007?

Don’t worry Meng. It is very well know issue and Microsoft is already aware about the same. Hence they have launched a HitFix which you can download from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972566. simply download and apply the Hot fix, problem will be solved.

We have now over 100 installation of Office 2007 with SP2 at our location.
This problem has just surfaced (not to mention all the other ones w/ O-07) and neither the hotfix or the registry fix works.

Those with Publisher 2003 have no problems opening .pub files - just the ones with Publisher 2007 (from the Office 2007 Suite).

So - next solution MVP?
